MIRACLES TO FLOW AT DAG HEWARD-MILLS' GOOD FRIDAY SERVICE

March 30, 2019, 2:43 p.m.

What is Easter? It is when Christians mark the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Easter is a happy occasion for Christians because it denotes that they will resurrect after death to face judgment. Various denominations mark Easter in different ways. Some attend church service, others hold conventions to commemorate the day.

Last year, as part of its commemoration of the day, the United Denomination originating from the Lighthouse Group of Churches organised a mammoth church service to memorialise the death of Christ at the Independence Square.

It is believed by all Christians that Christ died to save us from the many sins we are afflicted with, and it is also believed that once you die there is judgment awaiting you. The significance in celebrating this feat is that death could not hold Jesus Christ; he rose on the third day to shame death and as Christians, we have great joy in celebrating this day.

Thousands of people from the numerous branches attended this service which was the fourth one since its inception in 2015. As early as 10 a.m., hundreds of buses had dropped thousands of people at the square, awaiting the programme, which begins at 3 p.m. Clad in mourning cloth, the crowd was treated to a song ministration by a 9,000-strong mass choir and dancing by the various branches that had come together to form dancing stars made up of 5,000 people.

Pastors from other churches graced the august occasion. Reverend Steve Mensah of Charismatic Evangelistic Ministry and Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams of Action Chapel International were in attendance. After the music and dance ministrations, Evangelist Dag Heward-Mills, the Presiding Bishop of the UD church shared a message titled: “Who is Jesus Christ?” He stressed that Jesus is the way, the truth, the life and light of the world.

He made mention that without Christ, there won’t be any salvation for the world. Jesus died on the cross so the sins of the world may be washed away.

The evangelist stressed the need for salvation for Ghanaians and to follow the works of Jesus. He called on the congregation to pray for the country’s leaders to govern well and rule with God’s wisdom. Archbishop Duncan-Williams, in a short speech, described the gathering as the biggest he had ever seen.

The evangelist then prayed for the congregation, after which a number of people came forward to give testimonies about receiving healing. Some of them included a 71-year-old man who was healed of his ailments. A woman who was unable to walk for a long time suddenly could walk. There were countless miracles, too. The evangelist laid hands on all of them.

On 19 April 2019, which is Good Friday, the miracle service will be the same, as it is expected that thousands of Christians from various branches of Lighthouse and other denominations will throng the Independence Square to witness the celebration. The Good Friday miracle service is part of the Easter celebration of the UD church.
